Parents are you sick of feeling like you are blowing it all the time? You know when you leave an interaction with your teen and have that sinking feeling, “Well that sure didn’t go very well?” Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could have some conversations that created a greater sense of trust and understanding with your teen?

And what about that fight you tend to repeatedly get into with your partner every time your teen challenges you with some new request or behavior? It’s exhausting.

So if any of the above examples fit you, consider coming to our family workshop. We will describe the weekend below and you can fill out the registration form if you think you could have written these examples yourself.

Drs. Nancy and Paul Aikin, clinical psychologists and Co-Directors of the Sacramento-Davis EFT Center will utilize Dr. Sue Johnson’s empirically validated concepts of love modified to fit the love and relationships in families. This is an educational, enrichment program designed to strengthen the bonds between teens and parents. With the help of exercises, structured conversations, and group support, families will grow appreciation of how to rely on each other. This workshop is for families with teens between the ages of 13 and 19.

During these teen years, it is normal for families to have times of not getting along. This is an opportunity for families to talk – to figure out how to work better together. This workshop is a time for parents and teens to learn from one another that they are not alone in their challenges.

Beginning Saturday morning at 9:00 am, families will come participate throughout the day and evening.  There will be times for parents to meet with other parents, teens to meet with other teens, while most of the day will be spent in family units all learning together.

If you have any questions about this family workshop feel free to email (paulaaikin@gmail.com) or call us at 530-758-1912 (Nancy) or 530-758-1960 (Paul).

Drs. Aikin will be available for families that would like additional private consultation on Sunday, November 17. Hours and fees determined on a case by case basis. If you’re interested, please contact us.

I’ve already raised a teen and I raised our son the way I was raised. You didn’t ask the teen their opinion, you fed them their opinion until they took it as their own. So when my son left home, he was ready (to be a good citizen), but we weren’t connected as a family. I didn’t know him and he probably didn’t know himself!

Now, I see my home as a nest where our daughter can find out what she thinks, develop her mind and ideas and we’re there to help her, guide her and respect her knowing she has a soft place to fall if she fails. I’m not to send her out as a carbon copy of who I am, but rather to let her be who God made her to be. It really takes some of the pressure off being a parent.

When Sue and Angie said we should go to this seminar and it cost $500… I thought, ‘That’s a lot of money! Can it be worth that?’ Now I say, ‘Throw the money down and do it!!‘ “
